Broken ceramics can cause a lot of stress and upset, especially if they have great sentimental or financial value. Luckily, our conservators can step in to full restore broken items – whether this is a small chip or extreme damage. We are experts at reviving smashed objects and those with missing pieces.
Our objects conservator can restore the following artistic mediums:
We can also review unusual and unique materials that are not listed above. Please reach out via the form below to see what is possible for your item.
In our studio we only practice conservation-safe repair methods. This means that we focus on preservation and the artistic integrity of each item.
Whilst common household repair methods like superglue can result in unsightly, yellow acid damage, our solutions are tested to the sensitivity of the material and will allow for a strong but clear finish.
Any retouching is completed minimally, preserving the true aesthetic of the work without alteration. The application of missing color is completed with expertly matched pigments and finish.
When a fragment or decorative feature is missing, our conservator can accurately recreate it.
This can be perfectly formed in shape, style and colour. The finish will also be recreated, whether this is a high shine porcelain or antique patina.
Ceramics can build up dust, debris and contaminants within their intricate details. They can also be affected by fire, with soot residue staining the delicate surface. We can clean decorative objects with tailored solutions, safely removing historic and recent discoloration.
Chipped and cracked areas can be stabilised and restored with safe and excellent results. We often remove old repairs from these areas as they have started to yellow and replace them with a new conservation-grade alternative.
We welcome questions about ceramic restoration and can give you an estimated cost for repair and cleaning.
